g'day , im from Australia and im getting some conflicting advice on overlay flooring...
Im purchasing a Grey Ironbark 130mm wide (about 5") x 14mm (9/16") thick overlay flooring.
the plan is to lay black plastic over a concrete slab, plywood above spiked into concrete and then secrete nail + glue the timber on top.
my main question at the moment is what to use to secret nail? this will be a one off job for me and hire equipment is out of the question ( i live remote)...
i dont really want to spend $700AUS on a powernailer 50p and have been told a brad gun will work fine as the glue does most of the work... should i use a 16gauge or 18gauge brad? Ironbark is about as hard a wood can get from what i have looked at (14 Janka)... im told staples are out of the question as they will split the tongue...
if i go 16 gauge it will hold better but more chance of tongue splitting?
or 18 gauge = less holding power but less tongue splitting...
any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated...
