I have 100 year old floors that I professionally refinished yesterday. In one room, I had it buffed and put on one coat of oil based finish - this floor is beautiful. The rest (same wood) was sanded down then put on amber sealant and one coat of water based poly. I stopped him there because I think it's too light, not rich enough, and not forgiving of stains. Too late to stain, and I don't want to sand back to bare wood so that I can extend the life of my wood. Ideas and advice? My ideas are 1. remove poly with safe stripper then either stain or switch to oil-based finish. OR 2. wait for water based poly to cure 1-2 months and put oil on top. Will that look like the old floors over time? OR 3. add color to water based poly and do 1-2 more coats with that. Help! Thanks.
