I was asked to bid a commercial job on the 3rd floor of an older building in Colorado (not new construction). Their current offices on the 2nd floor have 3/4" solid white oak glued directly to the concrete slab, sanded and finished on site 1 year ago, and they want to match this flooring. The 3rd floor currently has carpet tiles glued directly to the concrete, and this was on the 2nd floor as well before they installed hardwood. I'm not sure what the last hardwood company did as far as floor prep, but it's my understanding that I need to remove all the old carpet adhesive before I can use a wood flooring adhesive such as Stauf One-Step...correct?
We have glued solid hardwood to concrete below, on, and above grade many times before using Stauf and Sika adhesives. Engineered woods can be a problem out here due to dry cupping (humidity here is in the single digits). But I've never had to deal with old carpet adhesive before on a slab.
The potential client got my number from one of my favorite customers, so I have to at least bid this job at a fair price, but I also can't get burned. Any advice on getting rid of this old carpet adhesive?
