I have existing white oak flooring in my 25 year old home. The installer wrote on our contract that he was installing red oak floor but I didn't know what type of existing floor I had.
He installed 400 sq ft of red oak next to our existing white oak floor. When he was having trouble matching the new floor to the existing floor we agreed to sand down the areas of the existing floor and then resand all of it to try to get a better stain match.
When the existing floor was sanded down it revealed the problem- he had installed the wrong oak. He says we need to pay because he wrote red oak in the contract. He finished the job and we aren't happy so we have not paid him the remaining 50% of the contract.
What should we do?
