We moved into a brand new home in Atlanta area in September. It was a very wet summer when the home was being built. Now we're into the winter/heating season and we're experiencing settling in the entire house. We have very large gaps between boards in a few areas...some as wide as a penny, and even some that I can place 2 pennies into! This cannot be normal settling, right? Installer came out and pried off the shoe moulding in one area to push them closer together, but I can still fit 2 pennies into it. He's coming back next week to use filler on the rest of them (still with gaps as large as 1 or 2 pennies.) This doesn't seem right for a gap that large? I can see subfloor underneath.
