I am the one who posted about a nightmare job that was done a few months ago.

To make this long story short you can search through and find the old post if necessary.

I need help to determine what is "fair" for a horrible floor installation. I know "fair" is subjective but I just don't want to screw myself out of something I could've gotten because I don't know how the process works.

Company came out, installed the job, had to come back several times because things weren't done correctly. To make sure I wasn't the one being picky, I had an inspector come out, along with many many posts and pictures and conversations with some of you on this site and also at least three other people in the business who just happened to be doing other work in my building.

The inspector said the entire floor 900 sq ft. had to be replaced due to the majority of hollow spots along with holes in almost every doorway, some gaps, just an overall sloppy job.

Here is my question... the company says it's not their responsibility to have leveled the floor, he also said I'm being over picky, blaming the glue, the wood, etc.

Nevertheless he said he will replace the floor or I can take the money he's offering.

I supplied the glue and wood (bostik and johnson engineered) which are both found to be just fine and not a contributor to the floor failing.

The wood was 4,840.00 the glue was 1,400.00 the inspection was 600.00 and I put out another 100.00 for caulk and base shoe because they brought the wrong kind.

Total of my cost 7,015.00 plus 3,650.00 for the installation.

After going back and forth he offered me 2,400 plus the money I originally gave him to do the installation... 3,650.

So basically he's giving me 2,400 extra plus my 3,650 back and the floor will stay as is. It's "livable" (besides the areas that are lifting, flexing and everything where wrong with it).

I can fix some areas with dri tac and POSSIBLY replace SOME boards but it'll never be a perfect floor.

So i'd get about 6,150 (the 3,650 i paid him for the entire job + the 2,400 the company would "compensate" me + I keep the floor the way it is). My  out of pocket was 10,665 (7,015 for wood, glue, inspector, etc. and 3,650 for installation) in which he'd give me back 6,150.

If I were to have someone come out and start from scratch it would be an additional 1,500-2,500 (on top of new wood,  glue, install) because they would have to rip up the hardwood and there was originally carpet there.

Or... i let them re-do it but I really don't want that. I'd want them to put us in a hotel, hire a mover to move and pack things out of the way, because I really don't want to go thru that again, and I shouldn't have to

Please someone let me know if you think his 2,400 compensation plus my 3,650 is fair.

Thank you so much.

I'm just asking about the compensation. I realize having them re do the floor is possibly the nest solution but I dont want that. I don't trust them.
