Oil poly or omu isn't illegal, even here in strict massachusetts, it's available. That being said, we use 90 percent waterbased finish. We use Vermeister and it is so filled with solids, only two coats are needed to finish a floor.
The other 10percent is hard wax oils,
Aka ciranova, Rubio monocoat.
IMO oil based finish looks like crap and yellows way too fast. Also it smells and continues to off gas wks after it's supposedly dry!
There are many better options available these days, it's all about the end product. We have taken joy in trying to convert as many people to these better systems. They're more expensive because they are often imported.
We are seeing less and less customers wanting the amber color of yesterday's floors. The new school wants matte and pale. And we're glad because this is what we line the best as well!
