I'm having an issue with my porter cable air compressor for my floor stapler. It seems to be going forever. For every hour that it's on the compressor goes off for 30 seconds and it doesn't have normal pressure. The gauge shows normal pressure 100-120 but if I shoot 2-3 staples consecutive the 3rd one will lose its pressure. Anyone familiar with this? I would appreciate any advice

I disagree that high humidity helps when putting down water based finishes.

I'm in the Oakland area and generally the humidity is fairly low. I apply Traffic with a lambswool trowel
and put down three heavy coats on a 1 1/2 lb. clear shellac sealer coat.

Yesterday, I was putting down the final coat in a living room at about 10:30 in the am.

Halfway through, the humidity jumped and suddenly I was putting down honey. The front door was open
and ventilation was good.

Fortunately, Traffic is forgiving and the floor looked fantastic this morning.

I've been rebuilding some old f-89's. I still use one occationally when my
back or shoulder won't let me pick up my Hummel. Because I've used them
all my life I never have any problems with the sanding results.

Anyway, I have one drum someone gave me recently, where the paper rollers are slightly too far apart. I don't
recall ever having this issue. I haven't looked yet, but can the rollers be adjusted slightly so they're
closer together?

Maybe someone can save me some time.

Also, does anyone know if metal wheels are available for the rental EZ 110v belt sander?

Thanks.

Anyone know much about NOVA. Long story short, I am a homeowner. Had a bad installation of 1400SqFt of site finished Brazilian Cherry in my new construction home. Builder ripping it all out and replacing it with pre-finished. He's offering Nova. I've never heard of them and after all that I have been through over the last 18 months with my floor I'm hesitant to just go with what they are offering.

Alright, someone who owns one of these attachments ( not someone who saw one or tried it on a panel) tell me what the great benefit of using it is. I've been told it gets the floor flat, is more aggressive than a screen, and removes chatter and waves, and I've also been told it does no better than a regular screen.

I'd like to invest in one of these IF it actually does get the floor flat and remove wave, or even if it speeds up the buffing process.

Thanks in advance

My sub floors are in shreds after a glued down engineer wood floor had to be ripped out because of faulty install. Do they need to be replaced? Now the installer and box store want to do replace it with a nail down. How should my shredded floors be prepped to avoid deflection, what kind of underlay should we have to insulate and muffle sound? What are the pros and cons of nail down versus glue down.

I'm curious if any of you guys work alone everyday and how that's working for you? Have any of you had a crew of 4-5 guys and decided to downsize and just do smaller jobs by yourself to get rid of the hustle and bustle of the big jobs pressure to get jobs done all the time. We pay so much out in overhead it just doesn't seem worth it sometimes.

I have existing white oak flooring in my 25 year old home. The installer wrote on our contract that he was installing red oak floor but I didn't know what type of existing floor I had.
He installed 400 sq ft of red oak next to our existing white oak floor. When he was having trouble matching the new floor to the existing floor we agreed to sand down the areas of the existing floor and then resand all of it to try to get a better stain match.
When the existing floor was sanded down it revealed the problem- he had installed the wrong oak. He says we need to pay because he wrote red oak in the contract. He finished the job and we aren't happy so we have not paid him the remaining 50% of the contract.
What should we do?

He says he will fix it but we will have to pay him to remove it and fix it.
He also put the wrong finish on. He put just 2 coats of water based satin poly urethane and the existing floor has semi gloss. That part is dramatically different then the rest!

There's more than one way to skin the cat. Doing a rack and not walking -down- the- line, results in the same # of steps.

All I can say is my back fatigue is gone, happy bending to You. Watch more of the 53 videos.

If a home owner "demanded" you lay the floor upside down would you do it?
Tom is right...it's faster to install using a stair step method. For me if I use a lighter tool and can work faster that is less fatigue also. Installing as much flooring in a small area (stair step method), using a cordless saw on the cut end are some of the ways I accomplish that.

I've watched a couple of your videos...the edger wrench is neat but you shouldnt turn the edger upside down to change paper...dust will fall into the bolt hole and eventually build up so you can't tighten the bolt down (it happened to me). The on board dust containment is a neat idea but the collection bag is to small and it's to tall (again I'm a make it smaller and lighter sort of guy)

Your promoting your tools/business and that's ok...but like you said there's more than one way to skin a cat...however I skin a cat the way the most cat skinners do because most ways are not fast or profitable.

Green boards! Help --in my living room and large foyer/ hall my new RED oak
floors were bleached twice and received two coats of duraseal stain . They were a perfect
shade of pale gray. The floor was beautiful . The foyer /hall stain was a bit
uneven so it was very lightly sanded or screened and received a third coat of
stain. After the stain in the foyer/ hall dried for 2 days ( at this point the
stain in the living room has been dried for a total of 5 days ) the first coat
of finish went on -bona traffic HD matte .
The next day 30% of the living room had developed greenish boards ,and some are
more yellowish . Some of the boards that turned green, some parts of those
boards did not change color- so a board is green and the perfect gray . In some cases the whole board turned green .The
foyer is in perfect condition . Not one tiny color change. My floor guy &
contractor have been in this business for 20 years and have never seen this
before. Does anyone know why this happened ? we are devastated & stunned. Grateful for any explanation.
I have attached a pic of one of the boards - it was hard to capture the green color with my iphone
Thank you

I believe that you are looking for kerf marks in the face from the saw mill.

Are you interested in circle sawn or band sawn marks?

Depends upon how badly damaged the subfloor is. If subfloor is unacceptable it should not have any hardwood installed over it nailed or glued.

Do you have any photos?

I have seen some floors made with microlam header material riped down to 3/4" strips laied down to show the edge grain. It looks gorgeous. I was wondering if anyone has done this or seen this elseware. I have a few questions about it.
Do I need to route a toung and grove in it. How should I nail it to the sub floor. Does it need releif cuts in the bottom.

Theres not much info out there about it. Any advice or thoghts would be greatly appreciated

I have done a space with red oak. ( it it definately is Red oak) . The floor has been stained. There is a large area of tannin pull after using Bona Traffic HD. I need to redo and use a sealer. Anyone used Lock N Seal on ( stained ) red oak and then finished with Bona Traffic HD--if so any problems--
Has anyone used Lock N Seal and had it fail to stop tannin pull--
Bona rep cannot promice that Bona Seal will stop the serious tannin pull, so want to try Lock N Seal--

please excuse my lack of question marks- kepboard is broken
